Crohn’s & Colitis Awareness Week

Millions of Americans are affected by Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis – known collectively as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) – and there are countless symptoms that can impact people differently.

Symptoms can include abdominal pain, persistent diarrhea, rectal bleeding, fever and weight loss. In some patients, IBD can also affect the joints, skin, bones, kidneys, liver and/or eyes. While Crohn’s disease attacks any portion of the digestive tract, ulcerative colitis inflames only the large intestine or colon. There is no cure for IBD.

Crohn’s & Colitis Awareness Week (December 1-7) aims to explore what life is like for the millions of people who live with IBD. A U.S. Senate Resolution created Crohn’s & Colitis Awareness Week in 2011 to bring together the IBD community around a shared goal—to raise awareness and educate the public about IBD to see a future free of Crohn’s and colitis.
